Nice weather and no school on a Saturday means some free time for kids in Kansas. Why not celebrate a day just for people in this state.
The 2018 Outdoor Kansas for kids day is set for September 22nd at the Shawnee North Community Park nature trail. From 10 am till noon, children can hike the nature trail, learn more about animals native to Kansas, nature mural painting, archery, a scavenger hunt involving birds and a favorite….making s’mores’.
This event is held in recognition of the times when all Kansas kids grew up outdoors, whether they were working on a farm, fishing or taking a walk along the trail. Now, children are glued to their phones, not wanting to experience what the outdoors can offer. Outdoor Kansas for Kids gives children the opportunity to partner with adults to give them recreational opportunities and promote an active lifestyle.
This is a free event, which I hope you and your kids will take advantage of. The warm weather will be gone soon and this is a great opportunity to bond with the family.
